He enlisted on 1 April 1862 at Coles Island, SC as a Private in Company K, First South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company on the Maryland Campaign, and was left behind in a Frederick, MD hospital on 10 September 1862, probably ill.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General hospital #1 in Frederick on 18 September and died there on 4 October 1862. He was originally buried "on west side of and in the [Mt Olivet] cemetery at Frederick."

His family filed a claim for his final pay in April 1863.

After the War

He was probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
