A 17 year old student in Fluvanna County, he mustered as Private, Company F, 44th Virginia Infantry on 20 May 1861 in Palmyra, VA.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was originally buried " in N.E. corner of Mrs. Lucker's house-field" on the battlefield at Sharpsburg. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
