On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds at a US Army hospital near Sharpsburg on 20 September and was originally buried "In Benj. Grave's [Grove's?] old orchard". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
