Before Sharpsburg
A 21 year old farmer in Davidson County, he mustered as Private, Company I, 14th North Carolina Infantry on 14 May 1861 in Davidson County.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds at a US Army hospital near Sharpsburg on 20 September and was originally buried "In Benj. Grave's [Grove's?] old orchard". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
