He enlisted as Corporal in Company A, 2nd Louisiana Infantry on 11 May 1861 in New Orleans. He was promoted 1st Corporal on 9 March 1862, 4th Sergeant on 2 June, and 3rd Sergeant 2 July.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The rest of the War

Originally buried on the field at Sharpsburg near "Mrs. Lucker's" [Locker] barn. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
