A 43-year old farmer in Walker County, and father of at least 9 children, he enlisted as 2nd Corporal, Company H, 23rd Georgia Infantry on 31 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Crampton's Gap on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds 30 November 1862. Originally buried "at the Disciple church in Boonsboro [Maryland]". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
