Before Sharpsburg

From Meriwether County, he enlisted at Camp Tephens, GA on 10 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E, 28th Georgia Infantry. He was wounded at Seven Pines, VA on 31 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was noted by Brigadier General Colquitt for gallantry in Maryland and was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died between 17 and 29 September in a field hospital on the Line farm near Sharpsburg. He was probably originally buried on the farm and reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
