He enlisted as Private in Company D, 5th Louisiana Infantry on 16 May 1861 in New Orleans.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was mortally wounded in action at Monocacy, MD on 9 July 1864, and "left in the hands of the enemy" at Frederick, MD. He was admitted on 9 or 10 July to US Army General Hospital, Frederick and died there on 2 September 1864. Originally buried "along the west side and in cemetery at Frederick [Maryland]". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
