A 29 year old carpenter, he mustered as Private, Company H, 32nd Virginia Infantry on 27 May 1861 in Williamsburg.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured there.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on Lavinia Groves' farm, Sharpsburg, date not given. He was originally buried on the field at Sharpsburg near "Mrs. Lucker's" [Locker] barn. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
