Possibly from Pickens County, he enlisted as a Private in Company E, 23rd Georgia Infantry on 31 August 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds on 20 Septemnber 1862. Originally buried "in Mrs. Hoffman's barn field near Boonsboro, 150 yards N. W. of the barn". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
