Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as Private in Company F, 2nd Louisiana Infantry on 9 May 1861 in New Orleans. In June 1861 he was "Absent in Hospl. at Yorktown". He was elected 2nd Lieutenant on 1 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a shell to the head in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The rest of the War

Posthumously promoted First Lieutenant in October 1862. Originally buried "In Benj. Grave's [Grove's?] old orchard", near the battlefield at Sharpsburg. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
