He was killed in action at Boonsboro Gap (South Mountain), MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was originally buried "in Ben. Miller's field joining and east of John Highbarger's lot" near the battlefield. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
