He was a 19 year old clerk in New Orleans when he enlisted as Private, Company E, 7th Louisiana Infantry on 7 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was captured, probably mortally wounded, in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The rest of the War

He died in a warehouse and was originally buried "East of J. C. Grove's warehouse, on hill near a new house" on the battlefield at Sharpsburg. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
