From Emanuel County, he mustered as Private, Company K, 28th Georgia Infantry on 10 September 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds in September 1862 at a Federal field hospital on the Line Farm at Sharpsburg. He was originally buried "west of George Line's house in his new ground along side of an old white oak tree near his pond". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
