On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September. Captain Buchanan noted him as "missing."
The rest of the War
Died (date not given) at John Poffenberger's farm near Antietam. Originally buried "in Jonathon Poffenbarger's orchard along the west side" near the battlefield at Sharpsburg. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
