From the Clarendon District, he enlisted as Private, Company I, 23rd South Carolina Infantry on 1 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a US Army field hospital in Boonsboro, MD but died there, date not given. He was originally buried at the Disciple Church in Boonsboro and probably reinterred in Hagerstown about 1874.
