He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in a hospital in Unionville (now Uvilla) in Jefferson County, VA (now WV) on 20 November 1862. His father Lewis/Louis filed for his final pay of $165.67 in January 1863.
