From Volusia County, he mustered as Private in Company H, 2nd Florida Infantry on 13 July 1861. He was wounded in action at Gaines' Farm, VA on 27 June 1862.

He was mortally wounded in action and was captured at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds in Frederick, MD on 9 October 1862.
