Before Sharpsburg
A 19 year old shoemaker in Rockingham County, he mustered as Private, Company K, 13th North Carolina Infantry on 22 May 1861 in Rockingham County. He was promoted to Corporal on 26 April 1862 and to Sergeant about 1 September.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
