In 1860 he was a 24 year old farmer on his mother Mary's place at Guntown in Itawamba County, MS. He mustered as a Private in Company K, 19th Mississippi Infantry on 6 May 1861 in Baldwyn, MS. He was appointed First Corporal about July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was probably mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died in Shepherdstown, VA, date not given.
