Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 16 year old living with his parents, 9 siblings, and 5 slaves on their farm in Montgomery County, GA. He enlisted on 9 September 1861 at Whitesville Station (Station No. 3 on the Central Railroad of Georgia, later Guyton) in Effingham County, GA and mustered as a Private in Company E, 61st Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD and died there of wounds on 6 October 1862.
