A 20 year old farmer in Davidson County, he mustered as Private, Company B, 14th North Carolina Infantry on 27 April 1861 in Davidson County. He was promoted to Corporal on 28 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the abdomen and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds at a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 17 October 1862.
