A 24 year old farmer in Johnston County, he mustered as Private, Company C, First North Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1862 in Wake County.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 25 September 1862, probably in Shepherdstown, VA (now WV).
