Before Sharpsburg
Age 20, from Cabarrus County, he mustered as Private, Company B, 20th North Carolina Infantry on 30 May 1862 at Fort Johnston, NC. He was wounded at Malvern Hill, VA on 1 July 1862 and returned to duty about 1 September.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds in Shepherdstown, VA on 13 October 1862.
