Before Sharpsburg

Age 23, from New Hanover County, he enlisted as 2nd Sergeant, Company K, on 16 May 1861. He was appointed 3rd Lieutenant on 22 January 1862 and 2nd Lieutenant on 14 July.

On the Campaign

He was promoted to First Lieutenant, probably on the field at Sharpsburg, on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of typhoid fever at Shepherdstown, VA on 9 October 1862.
