From Clayton County, he enlisted as a musician in Company E, 10th Georgia Infantry on 20 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He died from wounds at Elias Groves Farm near Sharpsburg on 19 September 1862. He was originally buried "on west side of Mayer's old graveyard" and probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
