Before Antietam

A member of the Franklin Base Ball Club of Detroit, MI, he was a 30 year old printer in Detroit when he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Independent Company (Dygert's) of Michigan Sharpshooters, attached to the 16th Infantry, on 16 September 1861. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 18 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He commanded the Company in Maryland.

The rest of the War

He resigned his commission on 14 January 1863.

After the War

He lived in Detroit and Saginaw, MI, then moved to Chicago, IL in 1878. He continued in his profession as a printer and worked for newspapers in Chicago.
