Age 26, he enlisted as Sergeant, Company C, 20th New York Infantry on 3 May 1861 in New York City.
On the Campaign
He was in Maryland with his Company but died of disease at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 23 (or 28) October 1862. He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown.
