Before Sharpsburg
He gave his age as 26 when he enlisted May 17, 1861, in Company K, 2nd South Carolina Infantry. After that service he enlisted in the Brooks Artillery. He was described as having a light complexion, brown hair, black eyes, and being 5'10" tall.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was reported missing July 14, 1863, Falling Waters, Maryland, and appears on list at Old Capital Prison, Washington, DC as prisoner of war; he wa released on oath and sent north to Albany, NY, December 20, 1863.
