Phillip Frank Liddell

He was mustered into the 2nd Mississippi Regiment of Foot as Captain in May 1846, and may have seen service in the Mexican War.

He was commissioned Captain, Company K, 11th Mississippi Infnatry about 1 May 1861. He was elected Lt Colonel and commanded part of the Regiment at 1st Manassas on 21 July. On the day after First Manassas, Colonel Moore accidentally shot himself in the foot with his own pistol. Temporarily disabled, he went back to Mississippi and later submitted his resignation. In April 1862 Colonel Liddell was confirmed in command as Colonel in his place.

He was mortally wounded on the evening of 16 September while in command of his Regiment in defense of the Confederate line along the Smoketown Road just south of the East Woods. They were attacked by advance elements of Federal General Hookers I Corps. He was succeeded in command by Lt Colonel Butler.

He died of wounds in Shepherdstown, VA on 25 September 1862.
