Before Antietam

From Hartford, he enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant of Company A, First Connecticut Infantry for three months' service on 16 April 1861 and was mustered out on 31 July. He enrolled again, as First Lieutenant of Company C, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 1 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietiam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He resigned his commission on 24 December 1862.
