From Suffield, he enlisted as a Private in Rifle Company C, 3rd Connecticut Infantry on 24 April 1861 and mustered out with them on 12 August 1861. He enlisted again, as a Sergeant in Company D, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 11 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was listed as a deserter on 2 November 1862.
