Before Antietam

A 20 year old mechanic in Bristol, he enlisted as a Private in Company K, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 6 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was listed as a deserter at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

In 1880 he worked in an auger (drill bit) shop in Hamden, CT. In 1900 he was a janitor in Natick, MA. By April 1910 he had retired and lived with his daughter Lorena and her family in Natick, but he died later that year at the Westborough State Hospital for the Insane.

Edward Hooker, USN in The Descendants of Rev. Thomas Hooker, Hartford, Connecticut, 1586-1908 (1909), and the US Census of 1880, 1900, and 1910. His birth year seen also as 1839, 1842, and 1843. His gravesite is on Findagrave.

He married Sophia A Banks (1850-1908) in Nova Scotia in September 1869 and they had 3 children; only their oldest, Lorena, survived childhood.

His brother Frederick (1845-1864) died of disease in Frederick, MD on 1 December 1864 while a Private in Company L, 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery; he's buried in Antietam National Cemetery.
