Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 29 year old scythe maker in Fitchburg, Worcester County, MA. He enrolled in Worcester, MA on 12 July 1861 as First Lieutenant of Company B, 15th Massachusetts Infantry and was commissioned Captain on 1 August. He was captured at Ball's Bluff, VA on 21 October 1862 and was exchanged and returned to duty in March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
