Before Antietam

Age 17, a yeoman farmer from Worcester, he enlisted in Company D, 15th Massachusetts Infantry on 6 February 1862.

On the Campaign

He was reported missing in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862, but was actually captured there.

The rest of the War

He was a prisoner in Richmond, then a paroled prisoner in the camp at Annapolis, MD by 15 October 1862. On 4 May 1864 he was wounded by a "spent ball" to his right eye.

He transferred 12 July 1864 to Company G, 20th Massachusetts Infantry. He was wounded again, in February 1865, place not given, and was discharged for disability due to wounds on 5 July 1865 in Baltimore, MD.

After the War

In 1870 he was a resident of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, Togus, ME, and in 1880 was in the Southern Branch of the National Home, at Hampton, VA. He returned to the Home in Togus in May 1883 and was discharged at his won request in October 1885.
