Age 24, a shoemaker from Brimfield, he enlisted as Corporal, Company F, 15th Massachusetts Infantry in July 1861.

He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds at a field hospital on the Hoffman Farm near the battlefield on 24 September 1862.
