Before Antietam

Age 17, a farmer from Worcester, he enlisted in Company G, 15th Massachusetts Infantry on 30 July 1861. He was wounded in the hip at Ball's Bluff, VA on 21 October 1861 and returned to duty on 13 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was reported missing in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862, but was actually captured there.

The rest of the War

He was a prisoner in Richmond, then a paroled prisoner in the camp at Annapolis, MD by 15 October 1862. He deserted on 25 February (or 1 March) 1863 near Falmouth, VA.

After the War

Not long after the war, by then a married 22 year old brakeman in Worcester, he died from an accidental "wound on head."
