Before Sharpsburg
Abram M. Feltus was awarded an AM degree by the University of Pennsylvania in 1857. He enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant, Company K, 16th Mississippi Infantry on 21 April 1861. He was promoted Captain, date not given.
On the Campaign
He was in command of the Regiment as senior officer present at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 20 December 1862, and was killed in action Spotsylvania Court House , VA on 12 May 1864.

"A.M. Feltus is listed in the 24 August 1850 census of Wilkinson County, Mississippi, with wife Eliza and 10 children. This is Abram Morell, Senior. He was then 51 years, born in NY, occupation planter, and owner of property with significant value. One of the children was "Abem. M.", 16 years - our man. His service from his Compiled Confederate Military Service Record via the Historical Data Systems database. His gravesite is on Findagrave.
His brother Henry James (1829-1899) was also in the Regiment, but returned home to run the family plantation "Deer Park" in 1864 when another brother William also died.
