Before Sharpsburg
A 27 year old lawyer, he enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant, Company K, 16th Mississippi Infantry on 21 April 1861 in Woodville, MS. He was promoted Captain on 27 May 1861 when they mustered for war service in Corinth.
On the Campaign
He was in command of the Regiment as senior officer present at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Major on 20 December 1862 and to Lieutenant Colonel on 7 March 1864 (to date from 20 December 1862), but was killed in action at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864.
