Francis David Holladay

He was a founder of the Suffolk Savings Bank in 1849. On 17 April 1861, by then 43 years old, he enrolled as Captain, Company B, 16th Virginia Infantry in Suffolk, VA. He as promoted to Major of the regiment on 6 January 1862 and wounded at Malvern Hill, VA on 1 July.

He commanded the regiment at the start of the Maryland Campaign and was captured with some of his men at Crampton's Gap on 14 September by men of the 4th Vermont Infantry.

He was held at Fort Delaware and sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange on 2 October 1862. He returned to duty on 17 February 1863. He resigned his commission on 16 March 1863.

He married Emily Susannah Pinner (b. 1817) in about 1837 and they had 3 children.
