Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 21 year old farmer living with his parents, 11 siblings, and paternal grandmother on their farm at Fayetteville in Cumberland County, NC. He enlisted there on 29 May 1861 and mustered the same day as a Private in Company C, 3rd North Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He appears on a parole list of 27 September 1862, but on no other Federal prisoner of war or hospital documentation. His company thought him a deserter, as he was not heard from after Sharpsburg.
