A 34 year old farmer in Moore County, he enlisted in Wake County on 15 July 1862 as Private, Company E, 3rd North Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 20 September 1862 at a US Army field hospital on or near the battlefield.
