Before Sharpsburg
Age 34, from Moore County, he enlisted in Wake County on 15 July 1862 as Private, Company E, 3rd North Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded by a gunshots to his left ankle and left side in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and he was captured there.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD on 29 September, but died there on 30 (or 29) October 1862.
