Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 22 year old living with his parents and 6 siblings on their farm near Prosperity in Moore County, NC. He was conscripted in Raleigh, NC on 15 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E, 3rd North Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
His father Dabney M Phillips filed a claim for his final pay of $23.46 in November 1862.
