Before Antietam

From Appleton, he enlisted in Company E, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 28 June 1861. He was promoted Corporal and Sergeant.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again in action at Gettyburg, PA in July 1863 and on 14 May 1864 (Spotsylvania Court House, VA ). He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 5 January 1865, and resigned on 9 June 1865.
