Before Sharpsburg
He lived in Orange County, NC but enlisted at age 28 in Prince William County, VA in Company B, 6th North Carolina Infantry on 3 February 1862. He was a substitute for James A. Henderson.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again, in action near Fredericksburg, VA on 4 May 1863. He was absent, accounted for in rolls through December 1864.
