Before Sharpsburg
He graduated from the North Carolina Military Institute in 1860 (Major D.H. Hill, Superintendent). Then living in Orange County, he enrolled in Company C, 6th North Carolina Infantry at age 22 as 2nd Lieutenant on 16 May 1861. He was appointed First Lieutenant and Regimental Adjutant on 20 May. Wounded in action and captured at Seven Pines, VA. Promoted Captain in June 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
