Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted at age 28 in Orange County, NC in Company C, 6th North Carolina Infantry on 1 May 1861. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant to date from 16 May 1861. Promoted to First Lieutenant on 15 July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 and promoted to Captain that date.
The rest of the War
He was again wounded, in action at Chancellorsville, VA on 4 May 1862. He was captured at Rappahannock Station, VA on 7 November 1863, and confined at Johnson's Island, OH until paroled on 13 June 1865.
After the War
He was a Doctor by his death in 1915.
