He enlisted at age 38 in Orange County, NC in Company C, 6th North Carolina Infantry on 1 May 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was again wounded, in action at Chancellorsville, VA on 4 May 1863. He was captured in action at Rappahannock Station, VA on 7 November 1863 and held at Point Lookout, MD until paroled on 4 June 1865.
