He enlisted at age 18 in Orange County, NC in Company C, 6th North Carolina Infantry on 22 February 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was captured in action at Rappahannock Station, VA on 7 November 1863 and held at Point Lookout, MD until paroled at Aiken's Landing in February or March 1865.
