Before Sharpsburg

A resident of McDowell County, he enlisted at age 32 in Company D, 6th North Carolina Infantry and was appointed Junior 2nd Lieutenant to date from 1 May 1861. He was promoted Senior 2nd Lieutenant on 11 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

After the War

He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 21 January 1863. He resigned 10 March 1864 for disability from wound. He was later Captain, Company A, A.C. Avery's Battalion, Local Defense.
